I’ve no objection to the term ‘graphic novel,’ as long as what it is talking about is actually some sort of graphic work that could conceivably be described as a novel. My main objection to the term is that usually it means a collection of six issues…or something that does not have the structure or any of the qualities of a novel, but is perhaps roughly the same size.

The Punisher by Chris Golden ( aka the angelic Punisher)
One of the most universally reviled chapters in the Punisher’s history is the incredibly brief (8 issues) he spent as some sort of angelic avenger. The Punisher is pretty much synonymous with vigilante-ism. He has no powers, just lots of guns and a mission to put criminals down for good. He rarely interacts with the rest of the Marvel universe so it seems incredibly strange that they’d somehow decide to completely pull the rug out from under the character and intertwine him so heavily with the metaphysical. Book Review: The Lost Symbol
So my first post after years and years and it’s to share my thoughts on a novel. I’m as surprised as anybody! It’s not that I don’t like reading, quite the opposite in fact, I love it. Unfortunately I don’t really set aside the time for reading, preferring to spend it playing games or watching a movie. Still, I pick up books quite often, hoping to some day get back into a rhythm where I could finish one regularly. That has happened to a certain degree now at work when I can use my scheduled work breaks to read a few pages of a book. I started with comics, which will surely make an appearance on this blog in the near future, but I figured I should try throwing a novel into the wood chipper to see if it would blend. I’m glad to say that I’ve finished my first book since 2009’s Pirate Latitudes. Continue reading Book Review: The Lost Symbol

E3 Post-Mortem – Microsoft
So E3 is probably old news to most people. I’ve had some time to mull over it a little bit. I think the big 3 console makers had very strong showings and there are probably a few games out there that might encourage me to pick up an Xbox One or PS4.
Nintendo E3 Wishlist
So, E3 is coming up soon and one of the big questions out there is what Nintendo will bring to the show given all the bad news its been weathering lately. I got my Wii U at launch and have enjoyed it greatly but there’s no denying that the system is struggling. Continue reading Nintendo E3 Wishlist
The Great Controller Showdown
So, pro gaming has grown immensely in recent years and while it typically doesn’t intersect with my normal day to day activities. One thing that eventually drew my attention was the influx of controllers targeting the pro-gamer demographic. Now, first-party controllers have typically been the “expensive” controllers while third-parties filled the budget gap with less expensive accessories. This new pro-gamer angle however, seems to have reversed this arrangement. Pro-controllers often go anywhere from $80-$100 at retail, compared to $50 or so for a standard first-party controller. This was insane! Given time and the power of the internet, I was able to take some of these controllers out for a spin and see why, if at all, these controllers were worth the premium. I was able to get my hands on 4 controllers and have summed up my thoughts below. Continue reading The Great Controller Showdown

Star Trek Movies Ranked Pt.1
Ahh, the lengthy post that WordPress cheated me out of twice -___- When I got the idea for this post I had decided to rewatch Star Trek Into Darkness after I’d picked it up on Blu Ray 3D. I figured I could do a quick, fun post where I list out the order I like the Star Trek movies in and talk about each one briefly. Continue reading Star Trek Movies Ranked Pt.1
